Studio Brief 1 - Composition

In this lesson we were told to get into pairs and write down the artists names that appear on the powerpoint and discuss and make notes about the image and its composition.

These are some from the powerpoint that really stuck out to me the most:

The task for this week was to draw 5 different thumbnail compositions using the same three elements, which were: a figure, an object and a landscape. Then using our favourite thumbnail we were told create an A5 more refined and developed version of it.
These are my 5 thumbnail rough sketches:

I decided to stick with my theme of under the sea and drew a mermaid as my figure, the ship wrecked boat and my object, then the coral reef and the ocean as my landscape. I am pleased with my final composition I spent quite a lot of time on this piece and happy with my use of lines. I think that the composition went well It has a clear foreground, mid-ground and background. To achieve this I did a bit of overlapping of the reef and the mermaid so you can clearly see that she is further behind and then drew the ship wreck a lot smaller and as a silhouette to emphasise the distance between them.
