I really enjoyed the visual journal in the beginning of the module. I've never really explored or experimented with collage before and found that I really took to it and have continued to use it across other modules. I found that collage worked really well for my moving pictures as gave it this homemade quality to it. I didn't want to create anything too digital as I think that the use of collage helped set the aesthetics for the eras in which the books were set. To continue this handmade look through my printed pictures I felt like lino was the best method. I am really pleased with the lines in the background I feel that it seems to give this aged look to the prints.
My time management skills have slightly improved. I think looking back I should have been more specific with times and dates, and need to be more strict on myself at sticking to what I have set myself to do. But I have found it helpful to regularly write down a list of everything that I need to do. I think that in future I need to write more structured timetables and rather than just writing them down and then not looking at them again I need to stick them up somewhere I will look at regularly.
When I was creating my animation I spent a lot of time deciding which font to go along side. Because I have very little knowledge about font I wasn't quite sure which ones were best to use. I was very apprehensive about using After Effects and the Dragon Frame software as I do generally struggle with anything digital. Once I knew how to work Dragon Frame I got quite confident with using it and setting it all up. I did have a bit of a battle with getting to grips with After Effects; after creating the first animation and writing down notes throughout the process it did help make the other two stings go slightly smoother.Another aspect of the animation I did find a bit of a hurdle was trying to find the right sounds to accompany it and placing it at the right time. But I feel like they have gone successfully. In addition, I think that discovering Vimeo really helped me gather inspiration for this project and helped encourage and trigger ideas. However, in the beginning I did go back and forth with some ideas. But I am pleased with the path that I went down with them being able to relate to the printed pictures too.
For my printed pictures I feel like I thoroughly explored the different possible compositions before choosing the final one. Using tracing paper was helpful for me to layer the components in different ways. I did find it challenging cutting out the intricate details within the linos, and did make a few mistakes along the way but I do really enjoy this process and find it quite satisfying. I felt that the more I did as well the better I was getting at creating the small details. I was disappointed to find out that the inks used for lino would not stay on the fabrics after being washed a few times; and which resulted in me creating three more lino prints in order for me to then respond to a different spec on the brief as I could no longer be doing the printed products.
Throughout the module I actually feel that I kept very on top of my blog and feel that this has aided my in staying organised and visible to see the journey I have gone through.I think that learning to use Issuu has helped majorly in maintaining a clear and easily manageable. However, at the beginning of the module I was making one long blog post for everything in each module. It wasn't until I spoke to Eleanor and was advised not to do this and create separate blog posts. After being told this it actually encouraged me to blog more I think this was because it made my blog a lot more clearer and organised plus it didn't feel an effort posting little and often rather than a lot at once. I will definitely continue to blog in this way in all future modules.
Overall, I think that this module has pushed me to experiment and try new things. I am excited to build on the skills that I've learnt within this module by carrying them on with me into future projects. I spent a lot of time and effort into this module and I hope that that shows through my blog and work.
